Theatrical Modernization

BLS partnered with the Kirkland Performance Center to deliver a comprehensive modernization of the venue’s stage and theatrical infrastructure — transforming the space with new rigging, lighting, power distribution, stage systems, and custom theatrical elements designed to support the next generation of performances.
Serving as both General Contractor and Theatrical Systems Integrator, BLS managed the project from engineering and fabrication through installation and commissioning, completing the work within an accelerated construction schedule.
Project Highlights
Automated Rigging System
The existing counterweight system was replaced with a fully motorized ETC Prodigy rigging system featuring 37 automated hoists. The upgrade dramatically improves safety, operational efficiency, and production flexibility while enabling rapid reconfiguration of lighting, scenery, drapery, and stage elements.
Lighting & Controls
BLS designed and installed a completely new theatrical lighting system centered around ETC control infrastructure and fixtures from ETC and High End Systems. The upgraded system provides expanded creative capabilities for theatrical productions, concerts, dance, and community events.
Custom motorized dance booms developed in collaboration with Tomcat provide flexible side-lighting positions that can be adjusted quickly and precisely for each production.
Stage Power & Data Distribution
To support modern production requirements, BLS engineered and installed a new stage-wide power and data distribution system, including custom floor pockets and cable troughs that provide clean, flexible access to power and network connectivity throughout the performance space.
Soft Goods & Stage Enhancements
BLS fabricated and installed a full package of new theatrical soft goods, including:
Grand drape
Scrim
Cyclorama
Stage curtains
Additional upgrades included a new orchestra pit cover system and stage leveling improvements, allowing the venue to adapt quickly for different performance configurations.
Architectural Lighting
New Canto architectural house lighting enhances the audience experience while integrating seamlessly with the theatrical lighting and control systems.

The completed renovation delivers a fully modernized performance environment that combines advanced theatrical technology with thoughtful engineering and craftsmanship. The upgraded venue now offers significantly greater flexibility, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced production capabilities for artists, technicians, and audiences alike.
