Rigging Inspections

BLS offers detailed annual inspections conducted by ETCP-certified technicians. Following OSHA 1926.550(a)(6) regulations, we verify your rigging systems are safe, fully compliant, and performing at their best, protecting both your venue and your equipment warranty.

Automated systems

  • Our inspections of Vortek rigging systems ensure that all components—including motors, cables, and controls—are functioning optimally. We check for wear, alignment, and safety, ensuring that your system operates without issues and remains compliant with regulations.

  • We are happy to inspect and load test hoists of any make/model.

Manual Systems

  • Our inspections cover the entire counterweight rigging system, including line sets, arbors, and battens. We check for proper weight distribution, safe operation, and any wear or tear that could compromise safety. We also verify the condition of ropes and hardware to ensure smooth operation.

  • We assess the structural integrity of stage grids, including their load-bearing capacity and condition. Our inspection ensures it’s secure, aligned, and free from wear or damage.

  • We inspect hemp rigging systems for the integrity of ropes, pulleys, and blocks. Our focus is on ensuring ropes are properly tensioned, blocks and pulleys are aligned, and the entire system operates smoothly without risk of failure.

  • Our inspections of curtain track systems ensure smooth and safe operation for curtains used in stages and events. We check for proper alignment, functionality of motorized tracks (if applicable), condition of the tracks, hardware, and curtain material to ensure they move freely without obstruction or wear.

  • Flame certification ensures that your stage curtains and event fabrics meet fire safety regulations, reducing the risk of fire hazards and ensuring the safety of performers and audiences.

  • We recommend having your stage curtains and event fabrics tested annually to ensure they remain compliant with safety codes and continue to meet fire resistance standards.

  • IFR (Inherently Flame Retardant) fabrics have fire-resistant properties built into the fibers, making them permanently resistant to flames. FR (Flame Retardant) fabrics are treated with chemicals to become flame-resistant, but the treatment may degrade over time.

  • We follow industry standards such as NFPA 705 (Field Flame Test for Textiles and Films) and local building codes to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.

  • The fire testing process typically takes a few hours depending on the number of panels and the type of fabric. Our technicians will provide you with an estimated time frame before starting the test.

  • Yes, we provide flame certification for both theatrical stage curtains and a wide range of event fabrics used in performances, concerts, galas, and other events.

  • If your fabrics fail the fire test, we’ll provide recommendations for corrective action, such as re-treatment or replacing the fabrics with compliant materials.
